Volleyball Completes First 14-0 Ivy Season, Awaits NCAA Bid After 20th Straight Victory
November 14, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
Princeton made two very different trips to the City of Brotherly Love this season. The first time, the Tigers were 1-2 and figuring out just what kind of team it would be. The second time, they knew exactly who they were. The 2007 Ivy League champions completed the first ever 14-0 league season with a 3-1 win at Penn, and they improved their win streak - which started on that first trip to Philadelphia - to 20 matches. Next stop, the NCAA tournament.
Princeton, which started its magical 2007 Ivy League season with a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Penn, swept the league schedule by topping Penn 30-27, 30-19, 25-30, 30-26. Once again, the big three led the Tigers in hitting. The Ivy League's top three players by kills are Princeton's Parker Henritze, Sheena Donohue and Lindsey Ensign, and they recorded 55 of the team's 67 kills. Henritze led the team with 19 kills and added 18 kills, while Donohue recorded 17 kills and 19 digs. Ensign recorded 18 kills and hit .452; the junior middle is the Ivy League leader with a .428 attack percentage.
Junior Bailey Robinson, the NCAA leader in assists, paced the offense with 58 assists, while 2005 CVU.com Libero of the Year Jenny McReynolds with 21 digs. Junior rightside player Kelli Grobe recorded nine kills and hit .304 in the win.
Princeton will learn its NCAA fate Sunday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. (ESPNU), and will play its first-round match either Nov. 29, 30 or Dec. 1.
