Men's Volleyball Upsets #15 St. Francis For First EIVA Victory
February 10, 2007 | Men's Volleyball
Men's volleyball coach Glenn Nelson felt his men's volleyball team could be strong this season, and Saturday's 3-1 win at No. 15 St. Francis will send the same message to the rest of the league. Princeton bounced back from a tough 3-2 loss at Juniata with a four-game win over the Red Flash, a team that already owns a win this season at 2006 EIVA finalist George Mason. The Tigers got 18 kills and 11 digs from Peter Eichler and a critical game-winning ace from Evan Pasion.
Princeton improved to 2-4, 1-1 in the league with a 32-30, 30-26, 21-30, 30-23 victory.
The Tigers nearly faced an early one-game deficit, but they fought off two game balls after trailing 29-27. After taking a 31-30 lead, Pasion clinched the game with his only ace of the match and one of two for Princeton during the match. The Tigers used a late surge in the second game to take a 20-20 tie and turn it into a 30-26 win. Sophomore middle Mike Vincent, who had 12 kills and eight blocks during the match, ended the second game with a kill. After struggling through the third game, Princeton used another late surge to claim a 30-23 game-four win.
One day after struggling with its attack percentage, Princeton hit .261 in the win over St. Francis, including a match-high .343 in the exciting opening win. The offense was led by sophomore Brendan Denham, who played one of the best complete matches of his career. He was a perfect 3-for-3 in kills to go along with 56 assists, six digs, six blocks and one service ace.
Princeton will make its home debut Tuesday evening against N.Y.U.
