No. 5 Penn State Overwhelms Men's Volleyball 3-0
February 23, 2007 | Men's Volleyball
The fifth-ranked Penn State men's volleyball team dominated early and never allowed Princeton to get into the match, as the Nittany Lions moved to 8-2, 4-0 in the EIVA Tait Division, with a 3-0 win at Dillon Gym. Princeton, which got a terrific individual effort from sophomore middle Mike Vincent, fell to 4-5, 2-2, with the loss.
Penn State ran away with the first game, hitting .714 with 15 kills and zero errors in a 30-17 victory. Princeton stayed in the second and third games, but it couldn't sustain a big run late in either game and lost 30-23 and 30-22.
Vincent led Princeton with 10 kills in 12 swings, and he added two solo blocks in the effort. Junior captain Peter Eichler added nine kills, three digs and an ace, while sophomore setter Brandon Denham had a match-high 27 assists and a team-best five digs.
Penn State dominated the hitting categories, recording a .439 attack percentage while limiting Princeton to a .108 total. Max Lipsitz had nine kills without an error for the Nittany Lions, while Alex Gutor added 10 kills and three aces. Princeton will resume its league schedule March 3 at home against East Stroudsburg.
