Engelke Named Ivy League Rookie Of The Week
February 27, 2007 | Men's Lacrosse
Rob Engelke scored at least 100 points as both a junior and senior in high school. While he's not quite on that pace as a college freshman, he's off to a good start.
Engelke scored three goals in his first collegiate game, helping Princeton to an 18-7 in over Canisius last Saturday. For his performance, Engelke was named the first Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Engelke scored his three goals on three shots against the Griffins. He became the second Princeton player in the last 12 years to score at least three goals in the first game of his freshman year.
Princeton's win helped the Tigers move to No. 1 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll and No. 3 in the USILA coaches' poll.
The Tigers play this weekend in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore when they take on Johns Hopkins in the noon opener, to be followed by Virginia and Syracuse in the second game. Both games can be seen on ESPNU.
Princeton, Hopkins, Syracuse and UVa are the only teams to win the NCAA championship since 1992.
