Stankievech and Jungers Named Academic All-District
May 24, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey, Men's Lacrosse
Princeton men's hockey junior Landis Stankievech and men's lacrosse senior Zachary Jungers were both named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II at-large team on Thursday. Stankievech received first-team honors, while Jungers was named to the second team.
The pair was selected to the at-large team, which comprises several sports, which do not have their own Academic All-America programs. Stankievech will be eligible for Academic All-America along with the other first-team selections from the seven districts in the next round of voting.
A mechanical and aerospace engineering major from Trochu, Alberta, Stankievech is a two-time member of ECAC Hockey's All-Academic Team and was an Academic All-Ivy this winter. The junior center had eight points this season, scoring five goals and adding three assists. Stankievech was one of the Tigers' top penalty killers and won 53% of his face-off draws.
A politics major from Phoenix, Md., Jungers was a first-team All-Ivy selection. He was the keystone of the defense until he suffered a knee injury that has forced him to miss the last three games of the season. Prior to that, Jungers had started every game on close defense the past two years after being the top longstick midfielder his freshman and sophomore years. He is one of 17 final nominees for the Tewaaraton Trophy, given to the outstanding player in college lacrosse, and one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award for Lacrosse, given to recognize excellence in athletics, academics and service.
