Princeton Draws Sixth-Seeded Georgetown In NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament
May 06, 2007 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men's lacrosse team already knew it would be on campus the weekend of May 19. The Tigers now know what they have to do if they want to be playing lacrosse that day.
The unseeded Tigers will play at sixth-seeded Georgetown in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday, May 13. The winner of that game will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played at Princeton Stadium Saturday, May 19, with or without the Tigers. Gametime for the Princeton-Georgetown game will be noon; the game will be televised on ESPNU.
Duke was named the top seed in the tournament, followed by Virginia, Johns Hopkins and undefeated and top-ranked Cornell, the fourth seed.
Princeton and Georgetown have met five times, and the Tigers have won all five of the previous meetings, including a 14-13 win in the NCAA quarterfinals in 2002. This will be the first time since the tournament expanded that Princeton will play on the road in the opening round.
Georgetown is 11-2 on the year, including a 7-0 record in the ECAC. Princeton went 10-3 in the regular season and went 5-1 in the Ivy League, finishing second to Cornell.
Princeton has won six NCAA championships and reached the Final Four 10 times.
The Princeton-Georgetown winner will play the winner of the game between Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame, while the other quarterfinal at Princeton matches the winner of the game between fifth-seeded Albany and Loyola with the winner of the game between No. 4 Cornell and Towson.
The Final Four will be played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore Memorial Day weekend.
