Alvarez Sweeps Pair As Wrestling Team Struggles In Tri-Meet

Sophomore Mike Alvarez won a pair of matches, including one by pin, but neither was enough to lead the Princeton wrestling team to a home win Sunday afternoon. Princeton lost the opener 32-10 to Stanford and fell 36-12 to East Stroudsburg.
Alvarez won his opening match with a fall right at the end of the second period against Stanford's Alex Muller. Senior heavyweight Sam Ritter, Princeton's leader in dual meet wins after Sunday's competitions, added a 15-7 major decision against Phillip Doerner, but the Stanford Cardinal dominated the rest of the match and claimed a 32-10 win.
East Stroudsburg picked up an EIWA win with a 36-12 victory in the Sunday finale. Alvarez earned a tight 7-4 victory over Tom Pagano at 174 pounds, which followed a 9-2 win for Alex Enriquez at 165 pounds. Sophomore Zack Morse claimed a forfeit win at 197 pounds to give Princeton its final team points of the day.
Princeton will compete against Davidson and Duke Friday in New York City.
