Men's Water Polo Tops Hopkins and Mercyhurst

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior Brendan Colgan scored eight goals as the 12th-ranked Princeton men's water polo swept a pair of games on Saturday at Bucknell. Princeton topped Johns Hopkins 7-5 in the morning and then defeated Mercyhurst 10-5 in the afternoon.
Princeton defeated Johns Hopkins in the morning to run its Southern Division record to 4-1 this season. Princeton jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter and the game stayed close as the teams traded goals in the second period. Princeton led 3-2 at the half and had a 5-3 lead going into the final period. The Blue Jays jumped back into the game in the final quarter, scoring twice to even the game at 5-5, but Princeton scored the final two goals of the game for the 7-5 win. Colgan scored while Princeton was a man up with three minutes remaining to put Princeton ahead with three minutes remaining.
Colgan scored three goals in the win, while four others added single goals for the Tigers. Sophomore Mike Merlone made nine saves.

Princeton then met Mercyhurst in a non-league game and came away with a 10-5 win over the Lakers. Colgan again led the way, this time scoring five times as the Tigers jumped to an early lead and then pulled ahead with three unanswered goals in the third quarter.
Princeton led the game 6-4 at the half and extended that lead to 9-4 after three quarters by holding Mercyhurst off the scoreboard during the frame while adding three goals to its lead. Junior Scott Hvidt made seven saves for the win.
