Men's Water Polo Downs Bucknell; Will Meet Navy Tomorrow For Southern Title

PRINCETON -- The 16th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team advanced to the Southern Championship game with an 8-4 win over No. 20 Bucknell on Saturday evening in the Southern semifinals at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton will meet 14th-ranked Navy in tomorrow's championship game.
Princeton got off to a fast start and essentially put the game out of reach in the opening eight minutes. Junior Douglas Wigley scored the game's first two goals to put Princeton ahead for good. The Tigers led 4-1 after a quarter and never looked back.
Freshman Mike Helou also had two goals in the game with four others adding single goals. Sophomore Mike Merlone made 11 saves for the win as Princeton picked up its second win of the year over Bucknell.
Princeton improved to 16-9 overall with the win. The Tigers will meet Navy tomorrow afternoon looking for their fifth CWPA Southern Championship. Princeton and Navy met twice in the regular season with each team winning on the road. Princeton won 7-3 at Navy and lost 8-6 at home.
