Wrestling Takes Down Delaware State at Princeton Quad

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton wrestling team defeated Delaware State, 34-12, lost to the United States Merchant Marine by just six points and dropped a match to Binghamton during a home quad meet at Dillon Gym on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Senior Marty Everin won all three of his matches in the 157-pound weight class, while junior Nikhil Pereira, sophomore Travis Erdman and freshmen Daniel Kolodzik and Kurt Brendel each picked up two victories.
Princeton opened the afternoon with a disappointing 24-18 loss to USMMA in a match that got away from the Tigers with two tight losses. Leading 9-6 after three matches, Dan Twito was able to defeat Princeton's Danny Scotton by a slim 8-7 margin to win at 149 pounds and open a 12-6 lead. Everin evened the team score at 12-12 with a late pin of Scott Lowe at 157 pounds. The two teams would split the next two matches, but with a forfeit at heavyweight coming for USMMA, Princeton knew it would need wins at both 184 and 197. Sophomore Travis Erdman forced overtime at 184, but would give up three points in a 6-3 loss. Brendel, wrestling for an injured Zach Morse at 197, pulled out a 6-3 win, but it wasn't enough to get the team win.
The Tigers bounced back with a 34-12 victory over Delaware State in the second match of the day. Pereira gave Princeton an early 4-3 with a major decision at 133 pounds, and Kolodzik followed it up with a pin in 17 seconds at 141 pounds. Combined with a forfeit win for Scotton at 149, Princeton was well on its way to the win. Everin, Erdman and Andy Lowy all picked up wins, while Brendel added a forfeit victory.
A very talented Binghamton team, which went unbeaten on the day, ended the session with a 33-12 win over the Tigers. Kolodzik picked up a pin, while Everin and Erdman both got decision victories.
Princeton will travel to Maryland Sunday to take on the Terrapins in their home opener. Maryland is just outside the Top 25 as a team and has three nationally-ranked competitors.
