Eichler, Rosenberg Power Volleyball Past NYU In Home Debut
February 12, 2008 | Men's Volleyball
Senior captain Peter Eichler recorded 20 kills while junior Phillip Rosenberg had a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs to lead the Princeton men's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over EIVA Hay Division foe NYU Tuesday night in the 2008 Tiger home debut. Princeton fought off a slow start to win the final three games, including a tense clincher.
After dropping the first game 30-25, Princeton bounce back to dominate the second game 30-20. The Tigers hit .440 in the third game to win 30-24, but the fourth game would go beyond 30 points. Both teams missed one chance to close the game, including an NYU opportunity that was thwarted by a Rosenberg kill, and Princeton forced an NYU error to close out a 32-30 win.
Princeton hit .347 for the match, and every starter outside of the setter and libero hit at least .300 for the match. Eichler hit .342 with his 20 kills and added six digs, while junior middle Mike Vincent had 10 kills, three blocks and two aces, while hitting .350 for the match. Fellow middle Jeff McCown had six kills and zero errors. Junior setter Brandon Denham had a match-high 45 assists.
The win improves Princeton to 3-3 overall. The Tigers will hit the road this weekend for an EIVA weekend at St. Francis (Friday) and Penn State (Saturday).
