Eichler Continues Hot Streak As Volleyball Sweeps Stevens Tech
February 22, 2008 | Men's Volleyball
Senior captain Peter Eichler capped a terrific week with his best performance Friday in Princeton's 3-0 men's volleyball victory over Stevens Tech at Dillon Gym. The Tigers, who moved over the .500 mark for the first time with the victory, got 20 kills, seven aces and a .472 attack percentage from the 2007 All-East outside hitter.
Princeton maintained a perfect 4-0 home record and moved to 6-5 overall with a 30-25, 30-14, 30-27 victory. Both Mike Vincent and Vincent Tuminelli recorded eight kills apiece, while Jeff McCown and Carl Hamming recorded seven apiece. Junior Brandon Denham recorded 46 assists, while classmate Phillip Rosenberg led the team with seven digs.
Both teams came out swinging in the opener. Stevens Tech held an early lead and recorded a .406 attack percentage for the game, but that was no match for Princeton's .522 attack percentage. A kill by Tuminelli gave Princeton an 11-10 lead, and the Tigers would never trail again in the opener. Stevens Tech would get the deficit to three points late, but a pair of late Hamming kills put the game away.
Princeton ran away early with the second game. A service error and consecutive aces by Eichler gave Princeton a 3-0 lead before a single rally had been played. Princeton would hit .450 and hold the Ducks to a -.083 attack percentage in the middle game, but Stevens Tech would battle back for a tight third game. Tied at 25, Princeton got two kills from Tuminelli and one from Vincent to build a 28-25 lead, and the 20th kill from Eichler ended the contest and gave Princeton its first three-match win streak of the season.
Princeton will return to EIVA Tait play March 1 when it takes on George Mason. Princeton is 1-3 in the Tait Division but has yet to play a league match at Dillon Gym.
