Men's Lacrosse Team Opens Up Princeton's Friday Doubleheader In Albany In Tierney's 300th Game as Tiger Head Coach
March 20, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
Most of the Princeton men's lacrosse team gathered in Baker Rink last Sunday night for Game 3 of the ECAC hockey quarterfinal series between the Tigers and Yale. At the start of the game, the lacrosse players were among the few in the building who knew they'd be heading to Albany this week, regardless of the outcome of the hockey game.
The 4-0 win by Princeton over Yale and a scheduling quirk have opened the door to a Princeton athletic doubleheader in Albany Friday afternoon. The 11th-ranked men's lacrosse team travels to the University at Albany for the second meeting ever between the schools (1:00 face-off, WPRB FM 103.3). The lacrosse game should end around 3, which would give Princeton fans all the time needed to travel the seven miles from the Albany campus to the Times-Union Center, where the hockey team will take on Colgate at 4 in the first ECAC semifinal.
The men's lacrosse game will be the 300th at Princeton for head coach Bill Tierney, who is 220-79 with six NCAA championships, 10 NCAA Final Fours and 13 Ivy League championships in his 21 seasons with the Tigers. Princeton was 117-183 in the 300 games before Tierney took over the program.
Princeton and Albany played in lacrosse in the 2003 NCAA opening round, which Princeton won 16-10. Of course, the current seniors in this game were in high school at the time, and the current freshmen were in eighth grade.
Albany is winless, but the Danes have lost four straight one-goal games. Princeton is 2-2, having not led at any point of its two losses and having had the lead for the entire second half of both of its wins.
