Volleyball Welcomes Three Division Rivals To Jadwin, Will Honor Glenn Nelson Saturday
March 05, 2008 | Men's Volleyball
The men's volleyball team will complete its seven-match homestand with three EIVA Tait Division contests this week, beginning Wednesday night against the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The week will conclude Saturday against the nation's top-ranked team, Penn State. That match will follow a brief ceremony honoring head coach Glenn Nelson, who became Princeton's winningest coach while leading the women's volleyball team to the 2007 Ivy League championship.
With seven teams in the EIVA Tait Division, Princeton is looking to at least secure a fourth-place finish in the division, which would assure the Tigers a bye through the pre-quarterfinals and a home quarterfinal match. Princeton, with a 7-5 overall record and 2-3 mark in the Tait, is currently alone in fifth place, although it can tie both #14 George Mason and Juniata for third place with a win tonight. NJIT is 2-5 in the division and could get to within striking distance of Princeton if it can be the first team to defeat the Tigers at Dillon Gym this season.
Princeton will host seventh-place East Stroudsburg (1-11, 0-8) and first-place Penn State (18-0, 9-0) on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Tigers swept a road match at East Stroudsburg for their first division win and fell 3-0 to Penn State in Happy Valley.
Princeton is led by senior captain Peter Eichler, who recorded his 1,000th career kill in the 3-1 upset of then-No. 11 George Mason on Saturday. Eichler ranks third in the EIVA with 4.52 kills per game and first with .57 aces per game. He is looking to lead Princeton back to the EIVA final four for his second straight season.
