Schneider, McBride Honored By Ivy League
April 14, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
Bob Schneider was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week after his four-goal performance, including the game-tying goal late in regulation and game-winner in overtime, against Harvard Saturday afternoon.
Jack McBride was named Rookie of the Week after scoring eight goals in two games last week.
Schneider was honored along with Brown goalie Jordan Burke, who made 19 saves in an 8-5 win over Penn.
Schneider and McBride led Princeton back from a huge hole at Harvard as the Tigers stayed unbeaten in the league, along with Cornell and Brown. Princeton trailed 7-3 before a goal by McBride with 17 seconds left in the third quarter began to turn the game around. Schneider completed the comeback by tying it at 8-8 with 1:20 to go and then ended it with his fourth of the day, 1:53 into overtime. Schneider's four goals were a career-high.
As for McBride, his goal late in the third was his eighth of the week, including six against Penn in a 14-5 win Tuesday night. McBride, who scored his six goals on six shots against the Quakers, broke the school record for goals in a game by a freshman, set by Sean Hartofilis when he scored five against Virginia in the 2000 NCAA semifinals.
McBride scored two more against Harvard, on two more shots, before he finally had a shot saved in the fourth quarter. His week consisted of eight goals on nine shots.
Princeton hosts Cornell Saturday (4) in the first of three games between the league's contenders. Cornell will host Brown the following week, and Princeton will be at Brown May 3. Brown also hosts Harvard this week.
