Men's Volleyball Clinches First-Round Bye With 3-0 Win Over ESU
April 08, 2008 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball clinched a spot in the 2008 EIVA quarterfinals with a dominant 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg during Senior Night at Princeton. Senior Peter Eichler led all players with 17 kills and helped the Tigers clinch at least a No. 4 spot in the postseason, although Princeton is still fighting for the second seed and a double bye into the EIVA semifinal.
Princeton improved to 11-8 overall, 6-5 in the EIVA Tait Division, with a 30-17, 30-20, 30-18 victory over East Stroudsburg (2-17, 0-12). The Tigers hit .411 for the match and had five players with at least four kills. Eichler hit .393 and added four aces to his match-high 17 kills, while sophomore Carl Hamming had seven kills and hit .556 for the Tigers. Outsides Mike Vincent and Jeff McCown combined for 12 kills and nine blocks, while junior setter Brandon Denham recorded a match-high 37 assists.
With the win, Princeton is assured no worse than a three-team tie with St. Francis and Juniata. If Princeton defeats George Mason Friday night in Fairfax, Va., the Tigers will finish either second or third in the division, depending on the result of Saturday's George Mason-NJIT match. If the Tigers lose to Mason, Princeton will host the winner of the Juniata-NYU first-round match on Wednesday, April 16. The winner would head to Dilllon Gym to take on Princeton Saturday, April 19, at 7 p.m.
