Dan Cocoziello Named First-Team All-America
May 25, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
Dan Cocoziello put the crowning touch on one of the greatest lacrosse careers in Princeton history when he was named a USILA first-team All-America at the All-America banquet Sunday afternoon.
Cocoziello completes his Princeton tenure with a resume that includes two unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selections, two second-team All-America selections and the honor of being the first defenseman ever to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
In addition to Cocoziello, Princeton was represented by honorable mention selections Alex Hewit and Mark Kovler.
Cocoziello had his best year as senior, when he repeatedly locked up opposing attackmen while scoring two goals and having two assists of his own as a major transition threat. His best game of the year was probably against Cornell All-America Max Siebald, whom Cocoziello held wiped out for more than a 30-minute stretch as Princeton took control of the game.
Hewit finished his career with three All-America selections, including a first-team selection in 2006. A high school teammate of Cocoziello's at the Delbarton School, Hewit's career goals-against average of 7.00002 is the third-best in Division I history.
Kovler was on his way to a huge junior year until he broke his ankle the week prior to the Harvard game and missed the final four games of the season. He was Princeton's leading goal scorer with 16 before his injury.
