Men's Lacrosse Team Heads to Spain, Ireland
June 02, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
Foxboro, Mass., was the preferred postseason destination for the Princeton men's lacrosse team. While that didn't quite work out, Princeton did have other vacation plans all along.
Princeton will be leaving Wednesday for a nine-day European tour that will see the Tigers play three games in two different countries. The trip will also feature tourist opportunities and a visit to an orphanage.
The Tigers will fly to Dublin, Ireland, and then change planes for Alicante, Spain, arriving Thursday morning local time. Princeton will play the English national team twice in Alicante before returning to Dublin on Monday, June 9. The final game of the tour will be against the English Under-19 national team.
Princeton will fly home on June 12.
Alicante is a coastal city whose history dates back more than 7,000 years. It is located approximately four hours south of Barcelona and four hours east of Madrid.
Princeton is coming off a 7-6 season in which it did not qualify for the NCAA tournament, whose championship weekend was in Foxboro Memorial Day. The Tigers, who will lose five starters from this year's team, will bring on the trip the 2008 seniors, who graduate the day before departure.
