July 01, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
Jack McBride has already had a first-hand look at one of his opponents in the upcoming World Under-19 Lacrosse championships during the Princeton men's lacrosse team's trip to Spain and Ireland last month. He has four other games to worry about in addition to that rematch, and if all goes well, he'll have two more after that.
McBride, who will be a sophomore next year, and incoming freshman Tyler Fiorito will represent Princeton at the Under-19 championships, which being Saturday outside of Vancouver in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The U.S. team has won each of the first five U-19 titles and is 29-0 all-time in the event.
McBride, the 2007 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, helped Princeton to a 15-4 win over the English U-19 team in Dublin during the European trip with two goals and an assist. The U.S. team will play England on July 7 in the last of its five round-robin games. The first opponent for the Americans will be the Iroquois nation on Saturday, followed on successive days with games against Australia, Japan and Canada before the game against England.
The semifinal games will be on Thursday, July 10, followed by the championship and third-place games on Saturday, July 12.
McBride scored 19 goals for Princeton last season, including a school single-game freshman record six against Penn.
Fiorito is an All-America goalie from McDonogh School and a native of Phoenix, Md.
