September 27, 2008 | Field Hockey
NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? Freshman Katie Reinprecht scored four goals to lead the 15th-ranked Princeton field hockey team to a 6-1 win at Yale on Saturday afternoon. The win was Princeton's third in a row as the Tigers moved to 6-1 this season and 2-0 in the Ivy League.
Princeton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when Reinprecht put Princeton ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute. Yale answered six minutes later on a goal from Julia Weiser, but the tie lasted just 2:28 before senior Katie Kinzer put the Tigers back on top for good at 14:59.
Reinprecht added goals in the 19th and 29th minutes to give Princeton a 4-1 halftime lead and scored two minutes into the second half to make it 5-1. Kinzer's second goal of the game and third goal of the season gave Princeton a 6-1 lead in the 46th minute.
Seniors Candice Arner and Holly McGarvie, and freshman Kathleen Sharkey added assists in the contest, while junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray made a save on her way to her second win in a row.
With four goals, Reinprecht moved her season total to eight and leads the team with 20 points. Her four goals on Saturday equaled her four goals this season entering the game. She also tied the Princeton record for goals in a game with six other players and became the first Tiger to score four goals in a game since McGarvie did it two seasons ago at Cornell.
Princeton outshot Yale 26-3 in the game and had 14 corners to Yale's two. In two Ivy League games this season, Princeton had outscored its opponents 10-1, outshot its opponents 59-4 and outcornered them 26-2.
