Men's Squash Earns Hard-Fought 7-2 Win Over No. 3 Yale
January 31, 2009 | Men's Squash
The Tigers moved to 8-0, 4-0 in the Ivy League, with a hard-fought 7-2
victory at No. 3 Yale Saturday. Reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Mauricio Sanchez returned to the lineup and
battled for a 9-6, 4-9, 9-7, 9-6 victory over John Fulham at the No. 1
spot.
Sanchez had missed Wednesday's 9-0 win over No. 7 Penn, Princeton's first match of the 2009 portion of the schedule. He was tested immediately, but the three-time All-America battled the whole way and came away with the challenging win. No. 2 Kimlee Wong and No. 3 Chris Callis followed with impressive 3-0 wins.
The toughest victory for Princeton came from David Letourneau, who overcame both injury and a 6-1 deficit in the fifth game to earn a 4-9, 9-7, 9-6, 6-9, 9-7 victory over John Roberts at the No. 4 position. Letourneau's victory clinched the win for Princeton, which has now won 18 straight league matches. Both David Canner and Hesham El Halaby had 3-1 wins for Princeton, while Imberton added a 3-0 victory at the No. 6 spot.
While Princeton will resume its pursuit of the Ivy League championship next weekend with home dates against both Dartmouth (Feb. 7) and Harvard (Feb. 8), the Tigers will face a very interesting test tomorrow (Feb. 1) against No. 5 Rochester. The Yellowjackets are considered one of the rising powers in college squash, and will face the Tigers at the Jadwin Squash Courts at 12:30 p.m.
