Reigning Champ Yale Sweeps Tiger Women's Volleyball Team
October 10, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
The Yale Bulldogs improved their winning streak over the Princeton women's volleyball team to three with a 3-0 victory in New Haven, Conn., Friday night. Sheena Donohue had a team-high 12 kills for Princeton, which will look for its first Ivy League victory Saturday afternoon at Brown.
Princeton fell to 2-11 overall, 0-2 in the Ivy League, with the 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 loss at Yale. The Bulldogs, who have only one loss all season and are 2-0 in league play, were the only team to beat the Tigers last season and kept Princeton from claiming back-to-back Ivy League titles.
Donohue recorded 12 kills and nine digs while hitting .257 for the match, while fellow co-captain Taylor Carroll recorded six kills and hit .312 for the match. Sophomore Cathryn Quinn recorded 10 kills for Princeton, which also got 11 digs from Hillary Ford and 26 assists from freshman setter Molly Bagshaw.
Yale took control early in the opening set, but had to rally from a 14-10 deficit in the second. A 5-1 run at that point evened the score at 15, and the experienced Bulldogs found a way to a 25-22 win. Princeton refused to fold and stayed tight with Yale until the latter portion of the final set, when the hosts went on a 5-0 run to take control of the match.
Princeton will look for its first road win of the season Saturday afternoon at Brown.
