Men's Volleyball Takes Part In Community & Staff Day Clinic
October 07, 2009 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team may be months away from its season opener, but that didn't stop the Tigers from coming together this past weekend. The team participated in the annual youth clinic Saturday morning.
The clinic was part of the "Family Fun-Fest" during Community and Staff Day at Princeton. The sports clinic was for children ages 5 to 13 and was hosted by Princeton University athletes. All participants in the youth sports clinic received a complimentary ticket to the football game. Fifteen teams were part of a full sports clinic for local youth, and the men's volleyball team enjoyed being part of it.
“It was a great day for men's volleyball," said senior Carl Hamming, who will join Jeff McCown as co-captains this season. "This was the first year that we have participated in the Sports Day Clinic and it was a huge success. Both the players and the kids had a great time. I'm sure this event will become a tradition for Princeton men's volleyball.”
“I am really proud of the guys for showing so much enthusiasm working with the kids," said first-year head coach Sam Shweisky. "Seniors Jeff McCown and Carl Hamming did a nice job organizing our efforts and putting forth a nice clinic for the kids. The energy was infectious and some of the guys ended up holding impromptu skill instruction for some of the parents who had brought their kids to the clinic. Anytime that we can reach out to help the community is a good thing and something we are happy to be a part of.”
The men's volleyball team will host a fall tournament at Dillon Gym on Saturday, Nov. 21; admission is free. Teams in attendance will include New Paltz, Hunter, NJIT, Stevens Tech, New Haven Alumni and Creole (a club team from N.Y.).
