CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (11/14/09) -- Sophomore Heather Landry scored both goals as the ninth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team edged eighth-ranked Harvard 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Bright Hockey Center.
Landry scored an early power-play goal in the win and then skated with the lead for much of the game before Harvard scored with its goalie pulled in the closing minutes. Landry then won the game for the Tigers late in overtime.
Princeton opened the scoring power-play goal just 3:56 into the action in the first period. Junior aura Martindale and sophomore Danielle DiCesare swung the puck around the zone, before Martindale took a slap shot from the left point. Landry tipped home the rebound to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Harvard drew even with 1:26 remaining in regulation. The Crimson won a faceoff in the Princeton zone and Leanna Coskren moved the puck to Cori Bassett. Bassett found Pucci at the top of the point, and the freshman defender took a hard slap shot that beat Princeton sophomore goaltender Rachel Weber.
In overtime, Landry stole the puck at the Harvard blue line and skated in on a breakaway, scoring the game-winning goal with 31 seconds to play in the extra session. Landry also scored Princeton's lone goal in a 1-0 win at Harvard last season.
Princeton improved to 5-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the ECAC. Princeton outshot the Crimson 39-26. Weber made 25 saves in the win, while Harvard's Christina Kessler made 37 saves.
Princeton will host Cornell next Friday at 7 p.m.
