CANTON, N.Y. (12/4/09) -- St. Lawrence scored late in the third period to snap a tie and go on to a 3-1 win over the Princeton women's hockey team on Friday afternoon at Appleton Arena. Sophomore Danielle DiCesare scored the lone Tiger goal in the loss.
Princeton came out of the gates strong and outplayed the Saints in the first period, controlling play and outshooting the home team 10-5. Unfortunately for the Tigers though, they were unable to crack Saint goaltender Brittony Chartier and instead the Saints opened the scoring on a Kayla Sullivan goal while the team's skate four-on-four 12 minutes into the stanza.
DiCesare's seventh goal of the season from senior captain Stephanie Denino evened the scoring three minutes into the second period as she pounced on a rebound in front of the goal. The teams then skate tied at 1-1 until Michelle Ng put the Saints ahead 2-1 with five minutes left in regulation.
Sullivan added a second goal as the Tigers pulled freshman netminder Cassie Seguin in the closing minute looking for the equalizer.
Chartier stopped 21 shots in the win, while Seguin made 25 saves in the loss. St. Lawrence outshot Princeton 28-22.
The Tigers fall to 7-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the ECAC with the loss. Princeton completes its weekend on Saturday afternoon at fourth-ranked Clarkson.
