December 06, 2009 | Men's Squash
A winning return by 2009 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Chris Callis highlighted Princeton's sweep of Brown and Bates in men's squash action at the Jadwin Squash Courts Saturday.
Callis, who has been dealing with an injury since the offseason and missed the season-opening weekend at Cornell, played No. 4 against Bates and defeated Dae Ro Lee 11-4, 11-4, 11-4. Callis played No. 3 for Princeton much of last season, including in the CSA national team finals, and earned a regular-season win over Trinity.
"It was a welcome site to have him back in the line-up," head coach Bob Callahan said. "Everyone else played well and we look forward to another exciting weekend with Navy and Rochester next week."
Princeton swept all 27 individual games against Brown. Freshman Todd Harrity remained perfect at No. 1 with an 11-1, 11-5, 11-6 victory over Adrian Leanza, while junior David Letourneau won 11-3, 11-1, 11-6 over Benjamin Clayman at No. 2. Seniors David Canner and Santiago Imberton followed with wins in the next two spots, while some lesser-experienced players like Nikhil Seth and Craig Matthews won matches at the bottom of the lineup.
Princeton won 27 of 28 against Bates, with Callis winning at No. 4 and Letourneau claiming an 11-6, 11-5, 11-9 win at No. 1 while Harrity got a match off. David Pena, Peter Sopher and Clay Blackiston were among a handful of Tigers who completed perfect days, while senior tri-captain James Thorman picked up a 3-1 win at No. 9.
