Volleyball Drops EIVA Opener 3-0 At Juniata
February 06, 2009 | Men's Volleyball
Despite 12 kills from senior middle Mike Vincent and 36 assists from classmate Brandon Denham, the Princeton men's volleyball team was unable to get its league season off to a winning start Friday night. The Tigers failed to convert on three game points in the opener and fell 3-0 at Juniata.
Princeton fell to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the EIVA Tait Division, with a 34-32, 30-26, 30-19 loss to Juniata (3-2, 1-1). The Tigers will look to get their first division win Saturday night at St. Francis, which has already pulled off a road upset at George Mason this season.
Princeton hit only .075 for the match, while Juniata hit .283. The Tigers could have seized momentum early, but they lost game balls at 29-28, 31-30 and 32-31. After Juniata got a kill on the third game ball, it came up with a pair of blocks to take the game and control of the match. The hosts would use mid-game runs in both the second and third to claim the sweep win.
Junior Carl Hamming had nine kills and 11 digs for Princeton, while both Phillip Rosenberg and Jeff McCown had seven kills apiece.
