Men's Swimming/Diving Places In Top 25 At NCAA Championships; Tiger Trio Earns All-America Honors
March 29, 2009 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Led by All-America honorable mention performances by seniors Doug Lennox and Dan Eckel, as well as the 400 free relay team of Lennox, senior Mike Carter, freshman Colin Cordes and junior Jon Hartmann, the 2009 Ivy League champion Princeton men's swimming and diving team placed 23rd at the 2009 NCAA Championships, held in College Station, Texas.
Lennox placed 10th and set a Princeton record in the 200 fly by going 1:42.71 in the consolation final; his time was actually the eighth-fastest of the night, but he missed a berth in the championship final by .03 of a second. His preliminary swim of 1:42.76 was edged out by South Carolina's Nick Walkotten, which meant Lennox' final individual swim would come in the consolation final. Eckel claimed his first All-America honors in his final collegiate swim by placing 15th in the event in a time of 1:44.15.
Lennox' final collegiate swim would come in the 400 free relay consolation final, as the Princeton foursome earned All-America honorable mention by placing 15th overall in a time of 2:54.29; that finish gave Princeton four team points and assured the Tigers a Top-25 finish at the national meet.
