Brendan Reilly Named As One Of 30 Candidates For Lowe's Senior Class Award For Lacrosse
March 05, 2009 | Men's Lacrosse
Brendan Reilly, a senior tri-captain for the Princeton men's lacrosse team, has been named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior Class Award for Lacrosse.
The award, which is an acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying In School," began as a basketball honor and was expanded to six other sports in 2007. Student-athletes who are in their final season of eligibility are considered in four areas: classroom, character, community and competition.
Reilly is a shortstick defensive midfielder who has been a starter at that position since the beginning of his sophomore year. He was a preseason All-America this year, and he was also an Academic All-Ivy League selection as a junior.
A politics major, Reilly was one of six winners of the Woodrow Wilson School's Scholar in the Nation's Service awards as a junior. As a result, he will be elegible for a graduate level scholarship after he completes at least two years of government service.
For his service, Reilly will be heading into the U.S. Marine Corps after completing Officer Candidate School last summer. He will be commissioned as a 2nd Lt. after graduation this June.
The 30 candidates for the award will be trimmed to 10 finalists in late March. The winner will be chosen after voting by media, coaches and fans and will be honored at the NCAA men's lacrosse Final Four in Foxborough, Mass.
