Princeton Finishes As Highest Non-BCS School In Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings
June 29, 2009 | General
Turns out there was room for one more footnote for the 2008-09 athletic year at Princeton University, a rather large footnote at that.
The final Leerfield Sports Directors' Cup standings were released Monday morning, and Princeton finished in 40th place in Division I. Princeton was also the highest ranked school from a non-BCS conference in the standings; the next highest non-BCS school was BYU in 48th place, while the next highest Ivy League school was Cornell in 59th.
The Directors' Cup awards points to schools based on success in postseason competition. In Division I, points are given in 20 predetermined sports, 10 for men and 10 for women.
Stanford was the overall champion for the 15th straight year.
Princeton earned points for the spring in men's and women's lacrosse, women's tennis and women's open crew.
Princeton won 11 Ivy League championships in the 2008-09 acdaemic year and won the Ivy League's unofficial all-sports points championship for the 23rd straight year.
