#12 UC San Diego Sweeps Men's Volleyball In California Finale
January 28, 2010 | Men's Volleyball
Despite a strong showing from junior outside Vincent Tuminelli, the Princeton men's volleyball team ended its California trip with a 3-0 loss at the 12th-ranked UC-San Diego Tritons.
Princeton fell to 0-3 with a 30-24, 30-24, 30-25 loss at UC-San Diego, which was playing its home opener Wednesday night. Once again, ineffective defense plagued the Tigers; while Princeton managed a .264 attack percentage, the Tritons thrived with a .518 percentage.
Tuminelli was Princeton's most effective hitter, killing 13 of 23 balls with only two errors for a .478 attack percentage. Fellow outside Pat Schwagler recorded 11 kills, while senior co-captain Carl Hamming recorded nine kills and four digs. Sophomore Scott Liljestrom recorded 35 assists and four digs, while senior co-captain Jeff McCown led Princeton with four service aces.
Princeton will return home and begin preparations for the 2010 EIVA season. After a road non-league match next Friday at NJIT, Princeton will open the league season with a difficult road match at George Mason on Feb. 6.
