Wrestling Gets Swept By #19 Virginia, Clarion In Saturday Tri-Meet

One day after an impressive 29-9 victory over Duquesne, the Princeton wrestling team was unable to maintain any positive momentum against two proud wrestling programs. In a tri-meet at Dillon Gym, Princeton fell to both #19 Virginia and Clarion.
Princeton had no answers for the 19th-ranked Cavaliers in the opening match. Freshmen Garrett Frey and Luis Ramos had the closest matches in the dual, but the Tigers were no match for the ACC power in a 42-0 loss.
Princeton did manage two wins against Clarion. Frey picked up his team-best 19th win of the season at 125 pounds when he defeated Joe Waitko 7-2. Clarion battled back with a major decision and three falls to take control of the team match, but Princeton junior tri-captain Travis Erdman gave the home faithful something to cheer about in a 4-0 win over Steven Cressley at 174 pounds.
Princeton heads to New England next weekend for four matches, including its Ivy League openers Saturday at Harvard (10 a.m.) and Brown (3 p.m.)
