TROY, N.Y. (1/30/10) - The Princeton and Rensselaer women's hockey teams skated to a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. The teams traded goals in the first seven minutes and neither team scored in the final 53 minutes.
Princeton opened the scoring at 2:06 of the first period when Alex Kinney scored her first collegiate goal unassisted on a delayed penalty as Princeton was skating with an extra attacker. RPI drew even five minutes later when Kendra Dunlop scored off a feed from Laura Gersten at 6:50.
From that point, both goaltenders took over and held their opponents off the scoreboard. Rachel Weber made a total of 24 saves in the Princeton net, while Sonja van der Bliek stopped 28 Princeton shots. Princeton had a 29-26 edge in shots in the tie.
The teams also tied 2-2 earlier this season in Princeton. The pair is also tied with Harvard in the ECAC standings for the third and the final two home-ice playoff spots. The Tigers are now 10-9-4 overall and 8-4-4 in the league. Princeton visits Colgate and Cornell next weekend.
