Men's Water Polo Splits on Sunday at SoCal

LOS ANGELES (10/3/10) - The 16th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team split two games on its final day at the SoCal Tournament. Princeton lost to 12th-ranked St. Francis 13-11 on Sunday morning and then defeated Redlands 10-8 to place 15th at the tournament.
Princeton fell behind 5-2 in the first quarter to St. Francis and trailed 8-4 at the half. The Tigers were down four entering the fourth, before moving the final margin to two goals over the final eight minutes.
Kurt Buchbinder led the Tigers with four goals in the loss, while Jack Ruth and Matt Hale each scored two goals. Mike Merlone had five saves in the loss.
In the second game, Princeton pulled ahead in the third quarter with five goals to take an insurmountable lead after the teams were tied at halftime. Mike Helou led the charge with four goals and Chris Cottrell added two.
Princeton is now 9-5 overall and returns home next weekend to host Bucknell.
