Volleyball Falls Out Of First With 3-0 Loss At Yale

After two disappointing opening-set losses, the Princeton women's volleyball team fell out of first place in the Ivy League with a 3-0 loss at Yale. Junior Cathryn Quinn led the Tigers with 10 kills, but the Tigers' inability to close out the first two sets beat them in the end.
Princeton led the opening set 23-20, but Yale scored the final five points to earn a 25-23 victory. The second set was even tougher, as Princeton missed on three set balls after going up 24-21, and Yale again ran off five straight points to claim a 26-24 victory. That wave of momentum was too much for the road team, which lost 25-10 in the final set.
Princeton fell to 12-8, 6-2 in the Ivy League, with the loss, and is now in third place in a tightly packed three-team race for the Ivy League title. Penn defeated Brown Friday night to move to 7-1 in league play, while Yale improved to 7-2 in Ivy play. Penn and Yale will play Saturday afternoon, while Princeton plays at Brown; a win in Providence would assure the Tigers second place with five matches left in the Ivy League season.
Senior Liz McStravick hit .400 for the match with five kills and five blocks, while both sophomores Lydia Rudnick and Jennifer Palmquist both added five kills. Setter Michaela Venuti recorded 23 assists and eight digs, while senior C.C. Lobben led the Tigers with 11 digs.
Princeton takes on Brown Saturday at 4; in their first meeting, the Tigers rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to claim a 3-2 home victory over the Bears.
