Men's Squash Rebounds With Sweep Of Middlebury
February 01, 2010 | Men's Squash
With many of its regulars sitting out following Saturday's marathon showdown against Yale, the depth of the Princeton men's squash team carried the Tigers to a 9-0 victory over Middlebury College Sunday at the Jadwin Squash Courts.
Only Santiago Imberton and Peter Sopher completed full weekends, and both followed 3-0 wins on Saturday with 3-0 victories over the Panthers. Imberton, playing No. 1, defeated Valentin Quan 5, 3, 5, while Sopher topped Jay Dolan 7, 11, 6 at the No. 2 position.
Head coach Bob Callahan also got the opportunity to see many of his reserves, including Peter's twin brother, Philip, a 3-1 winner at the No. 4 position, and freshman Stephen Harrington, a 3-0 winner at No. 5. Both of his sons also earned victories, including a 3-1 win for Matthew Callahan at the No. 9 spot.
"It was a solid win for our team as we challenged many of our second ten players to win against a top 16 team in the country," Bob Callahan said. "It was very satisfying to see their great response. Everyone won and almost all in straight games. We head back to work to prepare for a very exciting weekend of squash coming up at Dartmouth and Harvard. The team is on a mission to be the best we can be and next weekend is a challenge we look forward to."
