Men's Lacrosse Starts Ranked 7th/8th, But With A Key Injury

The Princeton men's lacrosse team begins practice today with a national ranking of either sixth or eight, depending on which poll you prefer, and with one of its key players out for the next two months or so.
Princeton is ranked seventh by the coaches' poll and eighth by the media poll as the preseason begins. While much of Division I scrimmaged over the weekend (many in the snow), Ivy League schools begin practice on Feb. 1. The season opener for Princeton is Feb. 27, at home against Hofstra.
Even before the preseason began, Princeton suffered a setback when Chad Wiedmaier, a preseason first-team All-America, hurt his knee, an injury that will keep him out until midseason. Wiedmaier was a first-team All-Ivy League and second-team All-America selection as a freshman a year ago.
Princeton went 13-3 a year ago and reached No. 1 in the national rankings in midseason after beginning the season ranked 11th in both polls.
