Aemisegger Earns 11th All-America Honor, Places 4th In NCAA 500 Final
March 19, 2010 | Women's Swimming and Diving
With a lifetime best swim of 4:37.58 in the NCAA championship 500 final, Princeton senior Alicia Aemisegger earned her 11th All-America honor to open her final weekend of competitive swimming.
Aemisegger, who led Princeton to the 2010 Ivy League team title after sweeping her three individual events, began her final NCAA Championships with the 500 free. She qualified for the final with a time of 4:38.84, which ranked third among all swimmers. She improved on that total in the evening and was within .4 seconds of a second-place finish, but nobody in the pool was able to challenge Georgia's Allison Schmitt, who won the event in 4:34.13.
For Aemisegger, it was her eighth NCAA championship final in 10 tries and the seventh Top-4 finish in her career. She can build on both numbers over the next two days; she will compete in the 400 IM Friday and the 1650 on Saturday. Her time of 4:37.58 also breaks her own Princeton record.
Friday will also mark the weekend debut of sophomore Meredith Monroe, who will compete in the 100 back. Monroe's specialty is Saturday's 200 back, an event she won at the Ivy League Championships, but she could challenge for All-America honors in the 100 as well.
