Sam Shweisky Discusses His Dedication To USA Volleyball
July 09, 2010 | Men's Volleyball
Sam Shweisky was hired shortly before the Princeton women's volleyball season, when he helped the Tigers to a strong second-half turnaround. Months later, then as head coach, he guided the men's volleyball team to its best season in more than a decade. If you thought Shweisky would use the summer as a time to relax, think again.
Shweisky has been working with USA Volleyball for years, and he has continued that service after his first year as the head men's and assistant women's volleyball coach at Princeton. In fact, he wrote a full page about it called "Paying Your Dues" in a recent newsletter from USA Volleyball.
Shweisky's dedication to the national program is evident this summer, as he has worked or will work in three camps, ranging from late June through the end of July. After working in the USA Junior National A3 Camp in Fort Worth, Texas, from June 21-25, Shweisky headed to the Midwest for his final two sessions. He is in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., for the upcoming Boys A3 Camp July 11-14, and will be a head coach for the Girls' Youth Continental Team at the 2010 HP Championships later this month.
Shweisky led the Princeton men to a second-place finish in the 2010 EIVA championships and earned EIVA Head Coach of the Year honors in his debut season with the Tigers. Princeton pushed eventual NCAA runner-up Penn State in two tight games before ultimately losing a 3-0 final in University Park. As the assistant to women's head coach Jolie Ward, Shweisky helped Princeton win nine of its last 11 matches and climb to third in the league standings.
