While three athletic events were postponed on Princeton's campus Wednesday evening, things look far more promising for the 2011 men's volleyball season opener. San Diego temperatures are in the mid-70s and the current chances of precipitation listed at 0%; whether the forecast for the Tiger season is as promising will start to be answered tonight.
Princeton, which reached its first EIVA final since 1998 last year, will return three starters to the court tonight (5:00 PST), including EIVA all-tournament team selections Vincent Tuminelli and Michael Dye and second-team All-EIVA setter Scott Liljestrom. The Tigers will face a stiff challenge in their first match of the season, as UC-San Diego is currently ranked 15th nationally and has played seven matches this season. The Tritons hold an all-time 11-4 advantage over the Tigers, including nine straight wins, and have swept Princeton 3-0 in each of the last two years.
Princeton will conclude its California trip with matches at both Cal-Baptist (Thursday, 7:00 PST) and against Hope International (Friday, 7:00 PST). The match against Hope International will be played at Biola University.
