Women's Soccer Outshoots Brown, but Bears Take Win
October 08, 2011 | Women's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- For the fifth straight game, the Princeton women's soccer team outshot its opponent. As with the previous four, the final score was not in Princeton's favor.
Using goals in the 13th minute and 25th minute, the second coming via a penalty kick, Brown defeated Princeton 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Rhode Island to drop the Tigers to 1-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the Ivy League. Brown improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the league with the win.
Jen Hoy's goal gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead just 4:18 into the game, one of 20 shots Princeton took to Brown's nine. That forced Brown's goalkeeper tandem of Amber Bledsoe and MC Barrett to combine for eight saves while Princeton's Kristin Watson, due to injury making her second start of the season after debuting last week at Dartmouth, made three saves.
The Tigers were without midfielders Stephanie Iantorno and Caitlin Blosser, both due to injury. Blosser and Hoy account for five of Princeton's eight goals this season.
After no midweek game last week, the Tigers will have a busy stretch ahead. Francis Marion will come to Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest Monday before the Tigers head to Lehigh Wednesday and resume the Ivy slate next Saturday hosting Columbia.
