Men's Squash Sweeps Middlebury To Win 2011-12 Home Opener
November 21, 2011 | Men's Squash
One day after being pushed hard against seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall, the third-ranked Princeton men's squash team took care of business in efficient manner Sunday, sweeping Middlebury College to win its 2011-12 home opener.
Princeton didn't drop a single game during the match, which was played on five courts simultaneously with the women's match. The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, including a win at No. 2 from senior co-captain Chris Callis, who defeated Jay Dolan 6, 4 and 9.
"We played well and started each match strongly," head coach Bob Callahan said. "Middlebury is a talented team and it was good to see focused performances by everyone. It was good to have Chris Callis in the lineup after being out for two weeks due to pneumonia."
Fellow senior Clay Blackiston also won during the first shift, as did sophomore Dylan Ward and freshman Taylor Tutrone. Princeton clinched the match during a 5-0 second shift. Both junior Steve Harrington and sophomore Ash Egan were pushed late in their wins, but each made sure to finish in three.
Freshmen Tyler Osborne and David Hoffman both earned their first wins at the Jadwin Squash Courts; for Hoffman, it was his first collegiate win, since he played No. 10 against F&M. Todd Harrity extended his collegiate win streak to 22 with a 3-0 win over Valentin Quan.
Princeton will open its Ivy League season in two weeks when it takes on Penn Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.
