Late Sweep Of Sacred Heart Salvages Day At Bison Duals For Tiger Wrestling

Senior co-captain Daniel Kolodzik recorded three victories for the Princeton wrestling team, which overcame a disappointing start to win its final match of the Bison Duals, held Saturday at Bucknell. After losses to both the host Bison and nationally ranked Central Michigan, Princeton scored a 51-0 shutout of Sacred Heart.
Princeton opened the session with a 27-9 loss to host Bucknell in a match that saw two early thrillers go the Bison's way. The first match of the day saw 20th-ranked Garrett Frey lose an offensive shootout 10-9 to Austin Miller. After freshman Chris Perez picked up his 10th victory of the season, Princeton sophomore Adam Krop dropped a 5-3 overtime decision.
Instead of possibly being ahead 9-0, Princeton trailed 6-3, and Bucknell picked up a pin at 149 to build the lead to nine. Kolodzik scored an 8-1 win at 157 to keep Princeton within shouting distance, but Bucknell scored two straight wins to put the match away. Sophomore Dan Santoro grabbed a 10-4 win at 184 for Princeton's final team points of the match.
Princeton found itself in an early hole against Central Michigan as well, as 18th-ranked Joe Roth defeated Frey 8-2 at 125, and Perez fell 4-2 at 133. Krop picked up a 7-1 victory at 141 over Scott Mattingly, and Kolodzik followed two matches later with a 3-1 decision over Donnie Corby. Central Michigan, which had two Top-10 wrestlers in its higher weights, pulled away for the win. Princeton did have another highlight, as sophomore Ryan Callahan scored a 5-0 shutout at 174.
Princeton took out its frustration in the finale against Sacred Heart, recording five pins in a 51-0 win. Frey and Krop both pinned early, while Perez split the pair with a tech fall at 133. Both Kolodzik and freshman Rich Eva earned pins at 157 and 165, respectively, while Bobby Grogan finished the day with a pin at heavyweight.
Princeton is now off until the Midlands Championships, held Dec. 29-30 at Northwestern.
