Schreiber Named Ivy Rookie Of The Week; Tigers Now Ranked Seventh
March 07, 2011 | Men's Lacrosse
Tom Schreiber's second college game was at Homewood Field on the Johns Hopkins campus. Beyond the goal that Princeton shot at in the second and fourth quarters sits the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, where his father Doug is enshrined after his legendary career at Maryland.
If the younger Schreiber was intimidated by playing at Homewood in the shadow of where his father's plaque stands, he hardly showed it.
Schreiber scored four goals and had an assist to account for five of Princeton's eight goals in an 8-3 win over Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon. The performance earned him the Ivy League Rookie of the Week award for Week 2 of the season.
Schreiber followed up his two-goal debut against Hofstra with four goals against the Blue Jays. He scored three times in the first half, including twice in the final 3:14, as the Tigers opened up a 6-1 lead.
Through two games, Schreiber leads the team with six goals and seven points.
Schreiber, a freshman from St. Anthony's on Long Island, was the No. 2 incoming freshman in Division I this year, according to Inside Lacrosse. The No. 1 recruit was Nicky Galasso, another Long Island native, who will be with the North Carolina Tar Heels at Class of 1952 Stadium Friday night (7, ESPNU) in the Tigers home opener.
The win over Hopkins jumped the Tigers three spots in both polls, to No. 7 this week. UNC, who hosts unbeaten Penn tomorrow night, is ranked 10th by the media and 15th by the coaches.
