Schreiber Earns Third Ivy Rookie Of The Week Honor
April 18, 2011 | Men's Lacrosse
Tom Schreiber continued to heat up, even on two bitter evenings, and the result was an award that is starting become routine.
Schreiber led Princeton to a pair of wins last week with four goals and six assists in the two games to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. It was the second straight week that the league has honored Schreiber, who now won three times this year.
Schreiber's week really began when Princeton fell behind 8-3 in the third quarter against Rutgers last Tuesday night in driving rain, wind and temperatures that fell into the 30s.
From that point, Schreiber scored three of his four goals and had all six of his assists, first rallying the Tigers to an 11-10 win and then leading them past Dartmouth 8-4 Saturday on a day that was only slightly better from a weather standpoint.
Against Rutgers, Schreiber assisted on Jeff Froccaro's game-winner with 7:14 to play to wrap up a run during which he had five points in 15 minutes.
The freshman from St. Anthony's High on Long Island leads Princeton in both goals (14) and assists (13). He also leads all Ivy League freshmen in assists and points and is one goal away from the league freshman lead.
Princeton (4-6, 2-2 Ivy League) hosts Harvard Saturday in a key game as far as the Ivy League tournament in concerned. Princeton can clinch a spot in the field of four with a win and some other results that go in its favor.
It is still mathematically possible for Princeton at 3-3 to NOT be in the field and Princeton at 2-4 to be in the field, depending on what else happens.
