Fiorito, Schreiber, Wiedmaier Named USILA All-Americas
May 26, 2011 | Men's Lacrosse
Tyler Fiorito and Chad Wiedmaier have been here before. Tom Schreiber figures to be back again.
Fiorito, Wiedmaier and Schreiber were all named Division I men's lacrosse third-team All-Americas, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced Friday morning.
Fiorito and Wiedmaier, both juniors, were named All-Americas for the third time in their careers. Schreiber, the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year, completed a freshman season that saw him lead the Tigers in goals and assists, making him the first freshman in school history to do so.
Virginia's Steele Stanwick is the only first-team All-America who is playing in this weekend's Final Four.
Fiorito, an honorable mention All-America as a freshman and a second-team All-America, ranks second in Division I in save percentage and eighth in goals-against average. He had a career-high 20 saves in the season finale against Cornell, including six on shots by the Big Red's Rob Pannell, a first-team All-America attackman.
Fiorito was in double figures in saves in nine of 12 games, and he had at least 14 six times. He was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection for the second-straight year.
Wiedmaier, a defenseman, was a second-team All-America as a freshman and sophomore. This year, among other highlights, he held Johns Hopkins' Zach Palmer without a goal, assist or even shot in Princeton's 8-3 win over the No. 3 Blue Jays. He also continued his rivalry with Pannell, and in five career matchups between the two, Pannell now has four goals on 44 shots.
Wiedmaier has been a first-team All-Ivy selection each of his first three years; no Princeton player has ever done so all four years.
Schreiber came to Princeton as the No. 2 incoming freshman by Inside Lacrosse, and he didn't disappoint in the least. Despite missing one game to an injury, Schreiber led Princeton in both goals and assists, and he showed a propensity for playing his best in the biggest spots. He had three goals and three assists in Princeton's huge rally from five goals down to beat Rutgers, and he had four goals in his first game against Hopkins.
Schreiber was also a first-team All-Ivy selection.
