Ten Score as Men's Water Polo Downs Fordham 14-6

PRINCETON (9/10/11) - Ten Tigers scored goals as the 17th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team continued its season-opening weekend with a 14-6 win over Fordham on Saturday morning at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton raced out to a big lead in the win, scoring the game's first eight goals before Fordham got on the scoreboard three minutes into the second quarter. Tim Wenzlau scored twice in the first 1:02 to give Princeton a lead and goals from Matt Weber, Kayj Shannon and Thomas Nelson had the Tigers up 5-0 after eight minutes of action.
Princeton would contiue to build its lead in the second quarter as David Aynat, Shannon and Kurt Buchbinder scored to make it 8-0 Princeton before J.D. Shrewsbury scored for Fordham.
Princeton would get goals from ten scorers in the win as Jack Ruth, Shannon, Weber and Wenzlau all scored twice. Six others added single goals in the win. Drew Hoffenberg led seven Tigers with assists in the game as he collected a pair. Nelson had a team-high three steals.
Tyler Amina made two saves in the first quarter in goal and was credited with the win. Nick Gilligan played the final three quarters in goal, making eight saves, including a 5-meter save in the third quarter. Princeton was three of 10 in man-up situations and scored on two of three 5-meter chances as Adam Lebovitz and Kevin Zhang converted. Princeton held Fordham to a single man-up goal on seven chances.
Princeton will play Harvard on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The game was scheduled for 5:45 p.m., but the tournament schedule is running behind because of overtime in the George Washington-Harvard game.
