Volleyball Opens Crosstown Tournament With 3-2 Win Over Hartford
September 16, 2011 | Women's Volleyball
With All-Ivy outside Lydia Rudnick back on the floor, the Princeton women's volleyball outlasted Hartford for a tough 3-2 victory in the opening match of The Crosstown Tournament.
Head coach Sabrina King wanted to make sure that Rudnick was not over-used in her return to the court, so Rudnick played only three of the five sets. She made her presence felt, though, with 11 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. Her fellow All-Ivy honoree, senior middle Cathryn Quinn, led the Tigers with 15 kills and four blocks, while freshman outside Sarah Hanna continued her strong play with 14 kills.
Freshman setter Ginny Willis paced the offense with 53 assists and added 10 digs, while senior libero Hillary Ford added a match-best 34 digs. Junior Jennifer Palmquist recorded nine kills, while sophomore Chelsea Parker added eight kills and 12 digs.
King was able to use 15 players in the match as she continues to search for the best lineups prior to the Ivy League season, which begins at home next Friday at 7 p.m. against the Penn Quakers. Princeton will play two more matches this weekend, beginning with a 10 a.m. match against host Lehigh Saturday. The Tigers will conclude play Saturday at 12:30 against LaSalle.
