Volleyball Splits Saturday Pair, Prepares For Tuesday Home Opener
September 17, 2011 | Women's Volleyball
Senior middle Cathryn Quinn recorded 33 kills in two matches, while classmate and fellow four-year starter Hillary Ford averaged 20 digs, to help the Princeton women's volleyball team to a Saturday split at the Crosstown Tournament in Bethlehem. Princeton ends the tournament with a 2-1 record, thanks in part to a 3-2 victory over Hartford.
Princeton is now 7-4 overall and has one more non-league match to go before Friday's Ivy opener at home against Penn. The Tigers will make their Dillon Gym debut Tuesday night at 7 against Big East rival Seton Hall. It will be the first home match for new head coach Sabrina King, who has won Ivy League titles as both a player and assistant coach for Princeton.
Lehigh won the Saturday opener by rallying past Princeton in a marathon third set and carrying the momentum into the fourth. After a 4-0 run gave Princeton a 19-18 lead, a pair of kills by freshman Sarah Hanna gave the Tigers a pair of set balls. Lehigh fought back and eventually took the lead, though Princeton fought off three set balls as well. A Mountain Hawk block and a kill gave Lehigh the 29-27 win, and that carried it to a quick 9-1 edge in the fourth.
Princeton had a decisive win in the finale, cruising to a 25-13, 25-13, 25-10 win over the Explorers. Quinn recorded 17 kills without an error for a .708 attack percentage, while freshman setter Ginny Willis added 27 assists and guided the Tigers to a .347 attack percentage. Sophomore Chelsea Parker added six kills and five digs.
