Volleyball Falls 3-0 To EIVA Leader Penn State
February 25, 2012 | Men's Volleyball
Despite a strong performance from junior Michael Dye, the Princeton men's volleyball dropped a 3-0 matchup to reigning EIVA champion Penn State Friday night at Rec Hall.
Princeton fell 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 to the first-place Nittany Lions, who moved to 5-0 in EIVA play. Princeton fell to 2-2 in league play, though it has yet to play a single home match. The eight-match season-opening road trip will conclude Saturday night with a match at Saint Francis, which opened the weekend in second place in the EIVA standings.
Dye, who has a history of strong performances at Penn State, was brilliant against the nationally ranked Nittany Lions. The junior recorded 12 kills in 20 swings, made only one error, and added four digs and a pair of blocks. Dye was a key part of Princeton's 2010 EIVA finalist, and he was named to the all-tournament team to conclude his freshman season.
Current Princeton freshman Cody Kessel, who leads Princeton in kills and points this season, recorded eight kills and two blocks. Classmate Will Siroky added three kills on his three swings, while senior setter Scott Liljestrom added three kills and 23 assists. Both sophomore Davis Waddell and freshman Tony Ensbury both led the Tigers with seven digs.
